'Narnia' Sequel in the Works
While The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe continues to rake in millions at the box office, plans for a second Chronicles of Narnia film are already underway.
According to Variety.com, Cary Granat, CEO of LWW co-producers Walden Media, reported that the script for Prince Caspian is already, underway, with plans to tap a director within a few weeks.
Were planning on starting production by the fourth quarter of next year, Granat told Variety.
LWW director Andrew Adamson has already said that Caspian would be his first choice for a sequel, as its the only other book in the Narnia series that contains all four Pevensie children.
If we dont make it now, well never be able to because theyll be too old, said Adamson according to ContactMusic.com. That Chronicle is set one year after this one, so it would allow for the kids to get a bit older.
Adamson added that he would be, perfectly happy to make all seven.
While Adamsons involvement in Prince Caspian is not confirmed, NarniaWeb has reported that Douglas Gresham C.S. Lewis stepson and consultant to LWW- will be on board for the Narnia sequel, although his exact role in the film is unclear.
Meanwhile, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe spent its fourth consecutive weekend at the top of the foreign box office, bringing in an estimated $20.1 million overseas last weekend, bringing the films international gain to $319 million, according to Hollywood Reporter. LWW has grossed more than $580 million worldwide since its Dec. release.
