'The Passion' Nabs the Vote of the People
After being snubbed by Hollywood's actors, directors and producers, "The Passion of the Christ" won this year's People's Choice award for best film drama.
Winners of the People's Choice Awards were voted for online by some 21 million people this year. While "The Passion" may not have been honored by critics and media, the film has appealed to a large fan audience.
"To me, really, this is the ultimate goal because one doesn't make work for the elite," Gibson told reporters backstage. "To me, the people have spoken." According to the Associated Press, Gibson has vowed not to campaign his film for an Oscar, as many other film producers and directors do.
Nominees for the People's Choice Awards were chosen by some 6,000 people from Entertainment Weekly magazine's "Front Row Panel."
