2 Chainz Arrested After State Troopers Find Marijuana

Rapper and entertainer 2 Chainz has been arrested for drug possession in Maryland in the most recent incident to involve a high profile rapper.

Local reports indicate that 2 Chainz, whose real name is Tauheed Epps, was pulled over in a van after a Maryland State Police trooper noticed the vehicle speeding near Easton around 9 p.m. local time Thursday night.

When the trooper approached the vehicle he detected the strong smell of marijuana and conducted a preliminary search, Sgt. Marc Black, a state police spokesman, said in a statement.

He added that officers found a backpack in the van during the search that contained marijuana, paraphernalia and trace amounts of the illegal drug.

Epps told police that the backpack was his and was taken into custody where he was cited for drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana and was later released.

The citation in Maryland carries a maximum punishment of up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Epps is not the only big-name rapper who has had trouble with the law in the past few days after rapper DMX was arrested in South Carolina.

On Wednesday, DMX, also known by his legal name, Earl Simmons, was put in the Spartanburg County jail around 2 a.m. local time.

According to the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office, Simmons was spotted at a local gas station and was recognized by one of the officers.

After checking available DMV records, the deputy noticed that Simmons only had an active state identification card, but no current license was listed.

After following the vehicle for a short while, the officer decided to conduct a traffic stop and found out that the driver did not have a driver's license. The rapper also had his five-month-old daughter in the back seat. The deputy turned the car over to the passenger who had a valid driver's license.

After paying a fine Simmons was released.
