Every month thousands of items are recalled for a variety of reasons, with many products being found to potentially be extremely dangerous to the public.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has the task of tracking items and to inform the public of any problems and in extreme cases of recalls.

The CPSC website describes: "CPSC is charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risks of injury or death from thousands of types of consumer products."

The commission's website allows users to search for recalled items, and information can be found on over 5,000 product recalls and recall alerts using the various search functions.
