The Malibu Hybrid is powered by an Ecotec 1.8-liter inline-four engine and two electric motors plus a 1.4-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The automaker says the model will be able to reach 48 miles per gallon in city driving and 45 miles per gallon in highway driving, the report relays.

"The Malibu leverages knowledge and technology directly from the second-generation Chevrolet Volt," the Times quotes Chevrolet Cars and Crossovers' Marketing Director Steve Majoros. "By leveraging technology, we are broadening our level of expertise and lessons learned to bring consumers a world-class hybrid."

Some of the autonomous features of the 2016 Malibu Hybrid are Lane Keep Assist, Low-Speed Front Automatic Braking, and Front Pedestrian Braking. The teen driver monitoring features is the first in-vehicle system that will provide parents with information on how their teenage child handled their Malibu Hybrid.
