$38 Million Raised for Music Projects on Kickstarter
Music has become the second most popular fan funded category on Kickstarter, a crowd funding platform for creative projects. $38 million has been raised towards music projects over the past three years, according to an infographic in the New York Times. The statistics reveal that 7,545 music projects reached their goals successfully with an average financing of $5,140. Sitting at the number one spot, film/video projects pulled in $60 million so far.
More artists are using Kickstarter to fundraise for their music album and video projects. Fans and supporters become as important as creators as they directly help to empower the artist to create the art.
Christian rock band Family Force 5 recently opened a Kickstarter account to raise funds for their "ZOMBIE" music video and have raised $27,798 through 369 supporters, exceeding their initial goal of $10,000. Amounts between $1 to $2500 were pledged by their fans.
