At a July concert in Atlantic City, New Jersey, rock musician Carlos Santana told the audience that “When God made you and me, before we came out of the womb, you knew who you are and what you are.” He also declared that “Later on, when you grow out of it, you see things that you start believing that you could be something that … it sounds good, but you know it ain’t right,” adding “a woman is a woman and a man is a man.”
In the middle of his concert in New Jersey, Carlos Santana went on a bizarre anti-Trans rant.

Attendees say Santana interrupted his set after one song and went on for a while.

Santana issued an apology on Facebook on Aug. 24 after his month-old remarks recirculated online: “I am sorry for my insensitive comments. They don’t reflect that I want to honor and respect all person’s ideals and beliefs. I realize that what I said hurt people and that was not my intent. I sincerely apologize to the transgender community and everyone I offended.”
Santana also expressed a desire to “honor and respect all person’s ideals and beliefs whether they are LGBTQ or not.” After asserting that “this is the planet of free will,” the musician vowed to “pursue this goal to be happy and have fun, and for everyone to believe what they want and follow in your hearts without fear.”
“It takes courage to grow and glow in the light that you are and to be true, genuine, and authentic. We grow and learn to shine our light with Love and compliments. Have a glorious existence,” he concluded.
While Santana deleted his apology on the morning of Aug. 25 and replaced it with a statement reading “the energy of consciousness generates its own kind” and “hate begets hate love begets love,” he reposted the apology that afternoon.
