Whistleblowers allege political retaliation

At Wednesday's hearing, both Ziegler and Shipley spoke of retaliation they experienced after expressing concern that the investigations into Hunter Biden were being politicized. Ziegler reported, "DOJ-Tax have a clear target on me and my [supervisors'] back, and I believe that they are just waiting for an opportunity to pounce on us."

"My own agency retaliated against me and threatened me with criminal conduct in response to an internal email I sent to IRS leadership, even years after … essentially being left on an island when it came to this investigation," he said.

Shapley maintained that he experienced similar hostility from his superiors for raising questions about how the investigation was conducted.

"The senior leaders who are my immediate supervisors are currently making the mistake of retaliating against me for simply reporting outside the chain of command what I believed was wrong and could not be addressed internally," he asserted. "IRS senior leadership is allowing this retaliation and possibly assisting. My direct supervisor has not spoken with me in six weeks. Suddenly, all kinds of unusual scrutiny came down on me and my agents."
