As concerns about trans-identified males competing in women’s sports loom large in the minds of conservative voters, Haley faced criticism for taking a picture with Caitlyn Jenner. Formerly known as Bruce, Jenner is a former Olympic athlete and reality TV star who began identifying as a woman nearly a decade ago.

An X account shared a picture of Haley standing next to Jenner, who expresses sympathy for some conservative viewpoints including the belief that trans-identified males should not compete in women’s sports. A caption accompanying the post asked, “If you could summarize the downfall of the @gop in one photo what would it look like? And why is it this photo?”

The X account elaborated on why Haley’s picture with Jenner summarizes the downfall of the Republican Party, characterizing the message sent by the photo as “We BeCaMe TrAns to OwN ThE libs. ChEcKmAtE BiGoTs.” When Hollywood actor Dean Cain expressed amusement with the picture by sharing the post along with a caption reading, “I laughed,” Haley responded by declaring, “I don’t find it funny.”

“Caitlin came to see me at the U.N. and I appreciated her conservative views,” Haley added. “I will continue to think that the Republican Party is one of conservative views by all people regardless of the demographics. To me, that’s not funny. It’s America.”

For his part, Cain assured Haley that “The humor, and what I found funny — was the way the tweet was worded,” adding it “had nothing to do with conservative views, or you, or Caitlin, or the U.N., or America.” Cain stressed that he and Jenner “have been friends for decades.”
