7 faith-based movies to watch this Christmas holiday season
'The Girl Who Believes In Miracles' – DVD
Another film released on DVD this holiday season is the highest theatrical grossing faith and family film of the year: “The Girl Who Believes In Miracles.”
The BMG-Global film stars Academy Award-winner Mira Sorvino, along with actors Austyn Johnson, Kevin Sorbo and Emmy Award-winner Peter Coyote.
“Unlike most people, young Sara Hopkins is willing to take God at His word. So, when she hears a preacher say faith can move mountains, she starts praying! What begins with a mysteriously healed bird leads to people suddenly cured of their misery and misfortune all over town. But the overwhelming crush of notoriety and press attention soon takes its toll on Sara. Will her family be able to save their miracle girl before it’s too late?” the film’s synopsis reads.
Directed by Rich Correll (“Happy Days,” “Full House,” “Hannah Montana”), “The Girl Who Believes In Miracles” opened at No.6 at the domestic box office on April 2 and grossed $3.2 million in its total domestic run.
The faith-based movie highlights the miracle-working power of God. Ninety-eight-year-old Laurence Jaffe, the creator of the film, told CP in a past interview that he, too, is proof that miracles do happen.
"It's sort of like a miracle,” Jaffe said.
The actor started a new career as a filmmaker much later in life and after serving in the Marine Corps during World War II.
"This happens to be an uplifting movie and anything to make people feel good now is so very critical," Jaffe shared. "They should really flock to see it, to feel good about life and about themselves. We've been through a very, very tough year and now we'd like to see people feeling good again.”
He also encouraged people to pray, saying that just like the movie aims to bring encouragement, prayer does too.
"I happen to be a man of faith,” he said. “Prayer makes the person who's praying feel good.”
