Biden called on Congress to embrace "a pathway to citizenship for dreamers, those on temporary status, farm workers, essential workers."
The term "dreamers" refers to illegal immigrants brought to the country as children protected by former President Barack Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Executive Order. The White House released a statement outlining a list of guests sitting in first lady Jill Biden's viewing box, including Mitzi Colin Lopez.
"At just three years old, Colin Lopez's parents brought her to the United States from Mexico," the White House stated. "She grew up only knowing the United States as her home. As a DREAMer, she applied for and received Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) in 2015, and has since graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from West Chester University of Pennsylvania.
The White House identified Colin Lopez as "an advocate for comprehensive immigration reform" who "met the President to share her experiences as a DACA recipient." A picture shared on social media by the women's leadership organization Live Like Blaine shows Biden shaking hands with Colin Lopez.
This past weekend, @livelikeblaine Foundation's Summer VISTA Associate, Mitzi Colin Lopez, had the incredible honor of meeting President Biden.
