19-Year-Old Decides to Keep Baby After Abortion Pill Fails; 'We've Seen Her and Her Heartbeat Now'
A 19-year-old girl decided to have an abortion upon learning that she was pregnant for a second time, already having a 4-month-old child. However, the abortion pills she took failed, and now the young mother has decided to see the pregnancy through and welcome her baby girl.
Shannon Skinner learned she was pregnant by partner Anthony Hunt, 24, and the two decided to have an abortion because it was not the right time for her to have a second child.
"Anthony and I felt like we'd made the right decision because we were having problems and we didn't think it was right to bring a baby into that," Skinner told SWNS.com. "I'd always been one of those people that was against abortions and hated them, but I was suffering with post-natal depression. Lacie was just four months old at the time, so I had to do what I thought was best."

She went to her doctor and received abortive pills, took them, but still continued having morning sickness and felt movement in her womb. After three months, she went back to the doctor's office and learned that she was still pregnant. The fetus had survived the effects of the pills and, in later tests performed by doctors, appeared to be doing well.
Skinner is now grateful that the pills did not work and looks forward to welcoming her second child into the world in early May.
"We've now decided to keep the baby, as we don't feel it's right to have an abortion at this stage. She's obviously a little fighter, and we don't want to cause it any more harm," Skinner said. "When I had the abortion it didn't feel the same as it does now – we have seen her and she has a heartbeat now."
Obviously, there could still be unforeseen complications upon the baby's birth, but Skinner and Hunt are currently looking forward to her birth.
