Alan Jackson Tops Christian Charts
Country music superstar Alan Jackson has found himself at the top of two Christian Album charts for the first time with his latest ACR/Arista Nashville release, a hymn collection entitled Precious Memories.
The album, which sold 107,218 units during its first week of release, hit number one last week on Billboards Top Christian Albums and Top Christian & Gospel Albums as well as the magazines Top Country Albums chart, making Jackson the first recording artist to hit all three charts at the same time. The CD also debuted at No. 4 on the all-genre Billboard 200 sales chart.
According to the Associated Press, Precious Memories, which contains simple arrangements of 15 classic hymns including Blessed Assurance and How Great Thou Art, was originally intended to be a Christmas gift for Jacksons mother who had been after him for 10 years to make a gospel record. It was only after his family members and record label pressured him that he finally released it to the public.
People seem to have a hunger for those things that not only reinforce their faith but give them hope, RCA Label Group Chairman Joe Galante told AP. Certainly, this record has that feeling to it.
