'Alice Through the Looking Glass' News, Spoilers: Mia Wasikowska on What's Different About Alice; New Trailer Drops
Disney has just released a new trailer for its upcoming film "Alice Through the Looking Glass," the long-awaited sequel to 2010's "Alice in Wonderland."
The new trailer explores how Alice (Mia Wasikowska) finds herself back in the trippy and whimsical fictional world dreamed up by acclaimed author Lewis Carroll. In it, viewers find Alice locked up in a hospital after having been diagnosed by a doctor (Andrew Scott of "Sherlock") as having a "textbook case of female hysteria." Alice escapes, wanders through a mirror, and lands back in Wonderland.
The follow-up to the psychedelic "Alice in Wonderland" was directed by James Bobin and features many of the same characters from the first film. It is based on the classic story by Carroll but is said to be less dark and have a lighter tone than "Alice in Wonderland," which was helmed by Tim Burton.

Wasikowska recently spoke about reprising her role as the beloved Alice and what is different about the literary heroine in the second film, which is set three years from the first.
"In the first one, she was quite uncomfortable, and a little bit awkward, and was very much finding her way," the actress told Collider. "In this one, she's just spent the past few years traveling and being the captain of a ship, and being very productive, and feeling really empowered. She's much more sure of herself in this film."
"When she ends up back in Underland, she has everything reaffirmed for her again and is able to come back into the real world and approach it in a very authentic way," Wasikowska said.
"Alice Through the Looking Glass" reunites an older Alice with the gaggle of Wonderland characters she encountered in the first film. Johnny Depp reprises his role as the Mad Hatter as does Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen and Anne Hathaway as the White Queen. The late Alan Rickman lent his voice to Absolem the Caterpillar while Sacha Baron Cohen, who is new to the franchise, plays the tole of Time, Alice's latest adversary.
"Alice Through the Looking Glass" hits theaters May 27.
