Amanda Knox Latest News: Should She Get a Million Dollar Book Deal?

Jurors set Amanda Knox free Monday – overturning the murder conviction against the American student. Very shortly thereafter, Knox was offered a lucrative book deal that has the public speculating whether it would be right or proper for her to tell her story.

Amanda Knox kept a meticulous record of events in her prison diary, since the day she was arrested. Her diary was leaked the press in 2009 when she was convicted of murdering her British roommate Meredith Kercher.

Knox’s diary offered a poignant account of the trial and her own personal trials, including repeated professions of her innocence.

“I am innocent so I will have to be free. Free. Free. Free. Freedom. I will have freedom,” she reportedly wrote in one entry.

Another entry read, “Do you know me? Open your eyes and see that when it is said I am an angel, or I am a devil, or I am a lost girl, recognize that what is really lost is the truth!”

Some news agencies are reporting Knox started writing a book in prison and has already written hundreds of pages.

“She’ll write, because that’s her way of dealing with things,” stepfather Chris Mellas told the Guardian.

Speculators wonder if the Knox book will sell since there has been little public interest in the Casey Anthony book deal last summer.

Casey Anthony, found innocent in the contentious murder trial of her 2-year-old daughter, was allegedly offered a $750,000 book deal.

According to the Los Angeles Times Jacket Copy, “There public had little sympathy for Casey Anthony, whose young daughter disappeared under mysterious circumstances and was later found dead.”

In a Jacket Copy poll, 80 percent of respondents said they weren’t interested in a book from Anthony.

But what about Knox? Will she face the same response from her potential reader base? As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, a poll from the LA Times asked, “Should Amanda Knox get a book deal?”

Fifty percent said, “Yes, I agree with the verdict and Amanda Knox is innocent.” Only 8.03 percent said “No. I agree with the verdict, but I don’t think she needs to write a book.”

“I think that anything with her name on it and her face on it will create an interest,” Gene Grabowski, a crisis management expert with Levick Strategic Communications, told MSNBC.

“This is the United States of Entertainment. There’s a constant market for entertainment,” he added.
