Amazon to Release 5 New Kindle Fire Devices Before August?

Amazon is planning to release between five and six new Kindle Fire devices before the end of the month, according to Staple CEO Demos Parneros.

In a Reuters report, the CEO stated that he expects to see "five or six tablet SKUs" in Staples' system shortly. He also added that he expects one of these devices to be a 10-inch Amazon Kindle Fire tablet model.

Rumors of Amazon releasing a successor to its wildly successful Kindle Fire tablet in July began circulating earlier this year. The tablet's biggest competitor, the Google Nexus 7, launched earlier this month and has sold out with many retailers.

More devices expected to be released by Amazon include a Kindle Fire smartphone, and an HDTV-device made to offer Amazon's Prime and movie selection that can compete with Apple TV and Google TV.

CNET released a report at the end of last month that stated that Amazon could be launching the Kindle Fire successor as early as July 31. The publication citied a "credible source" for this information and pointed to DigiTimes for the rumored specifications on the tablet.

DigiTimes specs derived from its sources in the "upstream supply chain" who told the publication that the Kindle Fire 2 will feature a 7-inch display with a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution and will retail at $199. When this new version is released, the original Kindle's price will drop down to $149.

9to5 Google reported that the tablet will feature a camera and physical volume-control buttons.

In order for the next Kindle Fire to be successful, it must be able to compete with the Google Nexus 7 that has quickly become the hottest selling device of the summer. The tablet features a quad-core processor, Android 4.1, JellyBean and retails for $199.
