Amber Heard on Divorce Settlement with Johnny Depp: "It Was Never About the Money"
Amber Heard and Johnny Depp made a joint statement and revealed that instead of pushing through with the divorce proceedings, they have agreed to a settlement.
During the duration of his marriage to Amber Heard, Johnny Depp earned $350 million. Legally, the former was entitled to the actor's fortune as there was no prenuptial agreement was signed between the two. Despite the notion, she clarified her lack of interest towards the money.
Now, Heard has declared that all of her divorce settlement money will be divided equally between and donated to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles—the whole $7 million.
Never about the money
Heard's donation to both charitable institutions was her way of proving that her divorce to ex-husband Johnny Depp was never about the money. The joint statement of both actors released last Tuesday reads in part, "Neither party has made false accusations for financial gain. There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm." The statement also mentioned Heard wished her ex-husband the best in the future, as well.
According to another report, Heard made the donation to Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, since she has been an active volunteer at the institution for 10 years. The hospital's Chief Executive Officer, Paul Viviano, showed his appreciation to the "Three Days to Kill" actress, and said her donations would make lifesaving treatments affordable for children who are fighting for their lives every year.
Support for violence against women
Her donation to the ACLU is also her way of advocating against against violence towards women. With her dramatic divorce with Depp, she wished to find a positive outcome from the split. She likewise hoped to give the money to those who are not able to defend themselves due to their inability to afford legal services.
Earlier this year, Heard came forward and claimed that her husband has been abusing her physically and emotionally. In fact, a picture of her face with bruises surfaced which stirred rumors about Depp's indiscretions.
He, on the other hand, also denied the allegations made against him. The lawyer of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" actor also claimed that Heard was using domestic violence as her reason for divorce so she would win a more favorable settlement to the proceedings.
The divorce proceedings were supposed to commence next month, if the settlement has not been met.
