'American Idol's Jermaine Jones Disqualified on Tonight's Show

Jermaine Jones' hopes for becoming the next "American Idol" have been cut short, as the contestant has been disqualified.

Jones has Tweeted "Awww I will no longer b (sic) on the show," revealing that he has been disqualified for lying to producers about his criminal history. TMZ broke the news that Jones has been arrested twice and has outstanding warrants. Sources have stated that tonight will be Jones' final performance before being let go.

This is apparently not the first lie that Jones has told "American Idol" producers. Jones had previously said that his father had abandoned him over 10 years ago, and when his father, Kevin Jones, called him to voice his support, Jermaine told producers that he was incredibly upset and fearful that his father would exploit his new stardom.

Kevin Jones spoke with TMZ about the situation, denying that he walked out on his family and revealing that he had had dinner with his son just last week. In fact, Jones was even in the audience, supporting Jermaine during his performance.

Jones was seemingly the underdog of the series; judges brought him back after being eliminated two weeks ago. He survived to make it to the top 12 but will be let go during tonight's episode, which will feature part of the confrontation between Jones and the producers.

Many are wondering if Jones' story, from the long-lost father to the disqualification, was part of a larger gimmick by "American Idol" producers to improve ratings.

"Is it possible that by bringing back a contestant who was already set up for an early disqualification, the show's producers hoped to generate headlines and boost 'Idol's flagging ratings" asked blogger Lyndsey Parker.

Fans, however, are still rooting for the person they call the "gentle giant."

"Ok so because Jermaine Jones has a criminal past he's disqualified from American Idol?" tweeted Eboni Kelly.

"Gee, when I look over some of the reasons people have been booted from idol I think there is a bit of hypocrisy in the industry," noted Yahoo! user Jill Ann.
