Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich on 7.1 Percent of All Android Devices

Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich is now being used on 7.1 percent of all Android devices, according to Google's bi-monthly report.

The company posted some impressive new numbers that showed the growth of Ice Cream Sandwich throughout the world in recent months.

Just two months ago, Ice Cream Sandwich was only being used on 2.9 percent of all Android devices. These new numbers show that the software's users have more than doubled in this short time frame.

This could be due to the recent release of the HTC One series that includes the One S, One V and One X that are all powered by Ice Cream Sandwich.

Another smartphone recently introduced that is sure to boost Android 4.0 numbers is the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S3. The company announced the release of the device for the four major U.S. carriers earlier today.

Android 2.3, Gingerbread is still the most frequently used software, making up for 67 percent of all Android devices.

The second most used Android software is Android 2.2, Froyo, that is present on 19.1 percent of all Android devices.

The least used Android platform is 1.5, Cupcake that accounts for just 0.3 percent of Android devices.

Ice Cream Sandwich has experienced significant growth and is the third most used Android software in the world.

Many of the popular smartphones and tablets in the U.S. still have not received the Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade, however.

Once the company begins rolling it out the numbers are sure to double once again.

Google is also expected to launch its next-generation software Android 4.1, JellyBean, before the end of this year.

The name was originally thought to be for Android 5.0, but recent reports say otherwise.
