She added, “I don’t do a lot with them [girlfriends], and I’m very homebound.”

Jolie does travel quite frequently, going on several mission trips per year. She and partner Brad Pitt are known for raising awareness of poverty-stricken countries and working on behalf of refugees.

They have six children; three are adopted from Cambodia, Ethiopia and Vietnam, respectively. The adoptions were highly publicized, and Jolie used the publicity to raise awareness of humanitarian issues faced by each country.

In 2001, Jolie became a Goodwill Ambassador to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). She stated: “We cannot close ourselves off to information and ignore the fact that millions of people are out there suffering.”

Pitt and Jolie are the founders of the Maddox Jolie Pitt Foundation, which is named after their son. The website states the foundation is “dedicated to eradicating extreme rural poverty, protecting natural resources and conserving wildlife.”

Jolie has received numerous honors for her charity work, including awards given by the United Nations Association of USA and the United Nations Correspondents Association, as well as the International Rescue Committee.

She received honorary citizenship from Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni in 2005. Son Maddox is adopted from the country.

It is reported that Jolie supports over 24 charities. She once told reporters, “I honestly want to help. I think we all want justice and equality, a chance for a life with meaning.”
