Ann Curry Tearfully Leaves 'Today Show'

A staple on NBC's morning talk show, Ann Curry has announced that she will no longer be a regular co-host on "The Today Show" on Thursday.

"This is not easy to say," said the 55-year-old television personality as she choked back tears. "I will still be part of the 'Today' show family, in a different role."

Sitting beside her co-hosts, Curry explained that she had been "given a fancy new title" from NBC in order to travel across the world reporting on pertinent matters from here on out.

Before she made her reluctant departure, Curry noted her gratitude and love for viewers and the staff at the show.

"I am so grateful to all of you," said the host. "You are the real 'Today' show family. I have loved you, and I have wanted to give you the world. And I still do."

"To those of you who saw me as a groundbreaker, I am sorry that I could not carry the ball across the finish line- but, man, did I try," she added.

Ahead of Thursday's announcement, Curry gave an interview saying that she anticipated "a bit of a tough day," according to USA Today.

"I'm going to have to tell our viewers," said Curry. "That's what makes me more emotional that anything. I don't want to leave them. I love them. And I will really miss them."

It is unclear what brought on Curry's role change with NBC, but fellow "Today" co-stars and fans have applauded her character.

"You have the biggest heart in the business," co-host Matt Lauer told Curry on air Thursday.

On Twitter, users are noting the host's talent and wishing her well.

"Sending nothing but RESPECT & LOVE to the fabulous @anncurry," wrote Thomas. "Onward & Upward!!"

David posted, "Ann Curry from Today show. YOU will be very missed. I have had the pleasure to do segments with you. Thank you for all you do!!"

"The lovely @anncurry showing true class and grace at its finest as she says goodbye to the Today show," wrote Brittany.
