Apollo Nida Defends Himself Against Marriage Critics

Apollo Nida is defending himself from critics who wonder why "Real Housewives of Atlanta" star and attorney Phaedra Parks married him.

Nida made headlines earlier this year for allegedly creating fake businesses, false bank accounts and using stolen checks while defrauding automotive lenders, according to Access Atlanta. The Associated Press reported that Nida, the 35-year-old fitness guru and reality television personality, has officially admitted being involved in conspiracy to commit mail, wire, and bank fraud worth $2.3 million across 11 states.

Just before they married in 2009, Nida was released from jail. However, he is defending his wife's choice to marry him despite his criminal record.

"If I was a deadbeat, if I was no good, just a jailbird, whatever…You're talking about an educated woman with many, many accolades under her belt," Nida told StraightFromtheA.com. "You don't think with all of that, she can pick a man? Let's think about that."

Nida added, "there's something that I had to offer."

While Nida will be sentenced in July and faces 30 years in prison, he previously explained being hurt the most by the possibility of not parenting his children.

"What hurts me the most is the fact that I could potentially be leaving my sons and I resonate with Ayden more because he's four years old now so when he cries out for me and I'm not there for him, then potentially, who knows what could happen," Nida previously told radio station V103. "Let's just say hypothetically, let's just say my wife wants to go somewhere else. That means another man would be in my household."

He spoke about the possibility of his wife leaving him if he were to go to prison.

"I think Phaedra, in a perfect world, should be supportive as a wife should be ... But if she chooses to derail from the plan, then that's what she chooses to do," he said on the radio station. "Apollo is prepared for whatever happens in life. Whatever's been thrown at me, I deal with it."
