Atlanta Falcons Spoil Michael Vick Return as Eagles Crash to Defeat

The Philadelphia Eagles suffered a 35-31 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday night along with an injury to their starting quarterback.

Michael Vick, Eagles’ QB who played with the Atlanta Falcons before a prison stint stemming from dog fighting in 2007, was forced to face his old team on Sunday. The QB was injured, after his body and helmet crashed into the head of his teammate Todd Herremans.

Although Vick was able to walk away from the collision, he had to be helped off the field by a member of the Eagles’ training staff. NBC cameras followed the QB to the sideline where he was seen spitting blood.

Although initial reports speculated that Vick had suffered a neck injury, Eagles coach Andy Reid revealed that the QB had a concussion. Fans of the QB reacted to his injury on Twitter.

“Bring Michael Vick back in the game," one Twitter user wrote after the injury.

Although Vick did not return to the field after his injury in the third quarter, he was not hospitalized due to his injury. The QB traveled back to Philadelphia with his team but has not been cleared to practice, according to NFL reports.

Mike Kafka, Eagles’ QB who took over for Vick after the injury, said he understood the starting QB’s frustration.

"I know Mike is upset about (not finishing)," Kafka said, according to ESPN. "When you're hit like that, you can't do anything about it. It's out of his control."

Before his game-ending injury, Vick did throw a pair of touchdowns for the Eagles and 19 of 28 for 242 passing yards. He also ran six times for 25 yards.

After being let go by the Falcons following his dog fighting scandal, some speculated that the Eagles’ QB had something to prove to his former Atlanta fans. Jeremy Maclin, Eagles’ WR, said he felt bad that his teammate couldn’t accomplish that goal on Sunday night.

"I feel for him," Maclin said, according to ESPN. "Obviously, he wanted to come home and make a statement."
