Bethany Hamilton Engaged to Adam Dirks, 'Soul Surfer' Gives Glory to God

'When We Have Hard Times We Can Rely on Christ,' Says Hamilton

Bethany Hamilton, the surfer who lost her arm to a shark at age 13, is engaged. The "soul surfer" announced her engagement to Adam Dirks on her blog, in a post entitled "In Love."

"Spring of 2012 I met the most amazing person of my life. The first thing we did was jump off a cliff together! And you could say it was love at first cliff jump. The more time we spent together the more I liked Adam. He is genuine, kind, fun, adventurous, easy going, friendly to all, passionate for Christ and just a great guy over all!" Hamilton wrote.

"On April 9, 2013, Adam proposed to me and I said, 'Yes!' I know Adam and I are right for each other and that God has us together for Him. Neither of us is perfect, but in my eyes Adam is just right and I'm thankful to have someone so perfectly perfect to share life with as one," she added.

Hamilton gives full credit for the relationship and engagement to God and notes that it was God's love that gave her the strength to accept the love of another. She also noted that she and Adam are doing "Bible-based pre-marital guidance with an older and wiser couple."

Faith is very important to Hamilton and Dirks. After the 2003 attack, Hamilton became an inspirational figure to many people and decided to tell her story to the world in her book "Soul Surfer." The book was so popular that it was made into a movie still seen around the world.

"When we have hard times we can rely on Christ and grow closer and stronger in our love and relationship," Hamilton wrote. "We know we can only prepare so much but look forward to learning and growing together as we share life – to love beyond just a feeling. We will choose to love during thick and thin (1 Corinthians 13)."

"I hope to grow more and more in love each day for you, Adam my love, and above all in my love for Christ! I'm so thankful for you and look forward to living life together!" Hamilton concluded before posting several Bible verses about relationships and love.
