Newlywed House Fire Miracle: God Allowed Survival of Two Most Important Things in Life
A newlywed couple in Irving, Texas, say they are trying to remember the important things in life after losing all of their possessions in a house fire – except for their Bible and marriage certificate.
An apartment fire in the northern Texas city destroyed all of the belongings of Chris and Brittni Lewis, who had been married less than a month when the disaster struck.
The couple's spirits were lifted, however, when they discovered the only two items that had survived the flames.

"It's something that I'll always cherish and it will always remind me of the two most important things in my life, which is my wife and God," Chris told NBC-DFW in a recent interview. "The only thing we keep telling ourselves is that it happened for a reason. What's next for us is finding what that reason is."
Relatives of the Lewis family have started a GoFundMe page to help the young couple regain their financial footing.
"This newly married couple, who chose to do it God's Way, have now lost everything they own. In the midst of this sorrow God still showed up and showed out," reads the GoFundMe page, written by their aunt, Clara Davis.
The description adds that the marriage certificate and Bible were able to survive the inferno because they were protected by Brittni's purse that was sitting on the living room table.
Although the Holy Book was burned, its pages were fully intact, the GoFundMe site states.
"That definitely lets us know that God is still on the throne. Chris and Brittni Lewis have just started their new life together and this catastrophe happened, but if we join together and bless them, God will indeed bless us," the description adds.
There have been numerous inspirational stories of religious symbols surviving tragedy.
In April 2015, the country band Lady Antebellum announced that the only item to survive a fire on their tour bus was singer Hillary Scott's Bible.
"I just got this picture from the scene of the fire and HAD to share this. Today, when our bus caught on fire we had quite a few personal belongings in the back (where I was asleep before evacuating the bus) one of them being my Bible," Scott wrote in an April 2015 Instagram post.
"I kid you not, EVERYTHING in the back lounge was destroyed from the flames, except my Bible. The outside cover was burned and messed up but NOT ONE PAGE was missing. Yall, God's Word will always stand. He is FOR YOU, WILL PROTECT YOU, AND HIS LOVE FOR YOU WILL NEVER FADE. My faith is forever deepened because of today. I hope this story deepens yours," Scott added.
Justin and Cynthia Wagner of Newport, Tennessee, also praised God when they discovered an intact Bible after a house fire in January 2016.
The couple held a perspective similar to that of the Lewis family, telling WNDU-TV last month that the undamaged Holy Book is a sign from God.
"That tells you right there that God is still here with us, He's still here for us," Justin Wagner told the local media outlet.
"Maybe God let this happen to us so we could get a new start in life," he added. "After I had seen the Word of God and I seen it on that, I felt like God was reassuring me, I saved your life through all this. I brought you guys through this for a reason."
