'Blair Witch' Spoilers, Release Date & Previews: New Movie Trailer Bound to Make Horror Fans Claustrophobic
Fans of the horror-genre movie got a genuinely epic surprise at the San Diego Comic-Con last July. In a clever misdirect, director Adam Wingard ("The Guest") announced his new horror project and marketed it as "The Woods", only to reveal that the film was actually a sequel to the seminal horror film "The Blair Witch Project."
Since then, people have been anxiously waiting for the sequel which is simply titled "Blair Witch". It's released two trailers so far and both are sticking to the "found footage" vibe the original is well-known for.
While the first one acted more as a refresher on the protagonists and the legendary Maryland woods, the latest one is bound to get even the bravest among us terribly claustrophobic as its frenetic editing never really allowed its viewers to breathe.
In this new extended trailer, we see campers discussing the legend of the Blair Witch before immediately cutting through a frantic chase in the woods. They seemed to take refuge inside a house where one of the female leads falls down a trap door. She's forced to crawl through an underground path, which seemed to close in on her the further she went, and the ensuing attempt to escape is downright claustrophobia-inducing.
What to expect from 'Blair Witch'
James Allen McCune stars as the younger brother of Heather Donahue, the girl from the first movie, alongside Callie Hernandez, Brandon Scott, Valorie Curry, Corbin Reid and Wes Robinson. The film follows their (mis)adventure into the mysterious Maryland forest to find answers about Heather's disappearance and to figure out, once and for all, the truth behind the Blair Witch legends.
It's also said to tie up some loose ends in the original, which means fans of the "Blair Witch Project" may get to know who committed all those murders before. With this proper sequel, audiences may also finally get to understand the original's infamous closing shot, widely considered to be one of the most haunting last scenes of any movie.
The original film, which was released in 1999, was directed by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez. It followed a trio of filmmakers who disappeared and were presumably killed inside the Maryland forest. Thanks to its pioneering and top notch execution of the "found footage" genre, it was a huge commercial success and has since been elevated to cult classic status.
Excited to watch "Blair Witch"? Catch it on theaters this coming September 15.
