Blizzard Launches Battle.net App For iOS And Android

Blizzard announced that it is launching a mobile companion app of its Battle.net software for the Android and iOS platforms. The app isn't capable of doing much at the moment but will come with the social features previously only on the desktop component of the Battle.net software.

The app makes it more convenient to send and receive friend requests while on the go as well as incorporate QR code scanning. It also has mobile chat which players can use to organize parties and raids even when they are far from their computers.

"If you've ever wanted to see what games your friends are playing while you're headed home on the bus, or quickly add a new friend you've met out on the town, now you can with the Blizzard Battle.net mobile app," Blizzard on a post on its website. The Battle.net app is separate from the Blizzard mobile authenticator that is now available for download on Google Play and Apple's App Store.

Blizzard's rival company Valve has already released a Steam mobile app for the Android, iOS, and Windows Mobile platforms a few years back. The app brought with it many of the functions of the desktop version of the software including trading. However, unlike Blizzard, the Steam mobile authenticator was incorporated into the mobile app to be used as an added security feature for Steam accounts.

Blizzard has also unveiled more details for the upcoming Blizzcon 2017 this November. Most of the new details concerned the event's Virtual Ticket which will give Blizzard fans live online coverage of the event.

These include game announcements, forums, tournaments, as well as contests for the full duration of Blizzcon. Tickets can be purchased on the official Blizzcon site for $40. For those who want physical souvenirs of this year's Blizzcon, Blizzard is also offering goodie bags for $45 with virtual ticket holders getting a discount of $10.
