Bobby Womack Diagnosed With Colon Cancer
Singer and songwriter Bobby Womack has been diagnosed with colon cancer, according to a message from his friend Bootsy Collins Monday.
On Facebook, Collins wrote, "He Wanted You All to Know That He Loves You & Thx for the Prayers."
Representatives for Womack have not commented on the diagnosis.

"Doc Says He Is In 1st Stage of Colon Cancer," added Collins in the Facebook post. "He is Very Up Beat About His Future, we laughed & joked before we hung up."
Womack spent the weekend in the hospital with pneumonia. Earlier this month, Womack was rushed to a hospital in Houston, Texas, after suffering from severe shortness of breath. The 68-year-old was scheduled to undergo a "minor heart procedure," reported Reuters.
Native to Ohio, Womack was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009. The Hall of Famer is best known for his songs "Woman's Gotta Have It" and "If You Think You're Lonely Now."
Womack's career has seen collaborations with the Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin, Sly & the Family Stone, Janis Joplin, and many others during the '60's. His solo career saw hit songs such as "Lookin' For a Love," "California Dreamin," and "Nobody Wants You When You're Down and Out."
With a musical career that has spanned over 40 years, Womack's legions of fans have taken to Twitter with reactions over the cancer diagnosis.
E.J. Friedman posted, "Everyone, I ask you: Pray for our brother and friend Bobby Womack who was diagnosed with colon cancer."
"Prayers for the soul legend Bobby Womack, who's been diagnosed with stage 1 colon cancer," posted Twitter user Lee.
"Bobby Womack got hits for days… I'm hurt by the news, get well soon…" posted Barry.
After years of inactivity, drug abuse, and health problems, Womack has been preparing for the release of his latest album.
The singer recently announced that hipster pop princess Lana Del Rey will guest appear on the album, "The Bravest Man In The Universe." It will be released later this year.
