Britney Spears' First Husband Calls Her New Engagement 'Fake'

Not even a week after the news of her engagement became public, pop princess Britney Spears’ first husband is calling the relationship a sham.

Jason Alexander, who was married to Spears in Las Vegas in 2004 for just 55 hours, sounded off to US Weekly about the engagement.

"I know everyone wants me to be happy about this, but I am not. I think it's fake and I think people are afraid to say it," Alexander said.

Alexander went on to say Spears’ marriage would be one of convenience.

"If you look at all the pictures between them there is no connection," Alexander told US Weekly. "They look like they are going through the motions. It seems like an answer to the court thing."

The “court thing” Alexander is referring to is Spears currently being under the conservatorship of her father, Jamie Spears.

A Los Angeles judge imposed the conservatorship in 2008 after Spears was admitted to the hospital for psychiatric treatment.

The singer’s second husband, former backup dancer Kevin Federline, told Australia's TV Week magazine he was "really happy" for his ex-wife when he heard the news.

"Sort of a nice way to sew it all up she marries her handler. That way she always has someone controlling her. It's sort of sad," Alexander quipped to US Weekly.

Jason Trawick, 40, Spears’ former agent, announced his engagement to the 30-year-old singer last Friday.
