Britney Spears Sauna Suit Explained: Aids in Weight Loss

Britney Spears sparked a deluge of questions after being photographed in a futuristic silver suit during a gym session this week, but it turns out that the unusual garb serves a specific purpose.

The 32-year-old singer was spotted wearing the sauna suit following her work out in Calabasas, Calif. on Wednesday when fans inquired after the metallic top. While the special workout gear looks cool, it also helps accelerate weight loss, according to E! News.

"The suit just does more of the same thing you get without it- only much more so," said owner of the Los Angeles spa Shape House, Sophie Chiche.

The weight loss is achieved by "super profuse sweating, as much as three times [as much without the suit]," said Chiche. In sweating excessively, clients who wear the suit can enjoy a "more efficient detox."

"The hyper sweatsuit retains the heat closer to your body, and because of the trapped moisture everything feels more steamy," the Shape House owner added. "It's like cooking in your own juices."

Spears has made it no secret that she is working hard in the gym in order to stay in top form for her Las Vegas residency. The singer kicked off her high-energy "Britney: Piece of Me" show on Dec. 27 and will deliver 48 shows, each over 90 minutes long, at Planet Hollywood Resort over the next two years.

"I'm doing 90 minutes of yoga twice a week in addition to a lot of cardio- hour-long sessions three times a week with my trainer, Tony Martinez," Spears explained to Shape magazine.

The hitmaker is not the only person to vouch for her workouts. Spears' Los Angeles-based yoga instructor, Elizabeth I, revealed which poses worked best for Spears during an interview in June- the Bow, the Boat, and the Camel.

"Sometimes we focus on the core or relaxation, but other times I just kick her butt," I told Shape magazine.
