Brooke Burke-Charvet Thyroid Cancer: Model Shocks Fans With Cancer News

Brooke Burke-Charvet shocked fans Thursday when she announced that she had thyroid cancer.

Burke-Charvet released a video so that fans could "hear straight from me what's going on."

"I got my results back and they were not good and I need to have thyroid surgery and have a thyroidectomy which means that I'm going to have a nice big scar here across my neck," the "Dancing With the Stars" co-host said.

The 41-year-old model and television personality had a biopsy done several months ago for a nodule on her thyroid. The results were atypical and doctors couldn't confirm whether it was cancerous or benign.

After additional tests and second opinions, it was determined that she had cancer.

Burke-Charvet has scheduled her surgery and the resulting scar across her neck means she won't get to walk around and pretend like nothing happened, she said in her video.

Despite the bad news, she told her fans that she's feeling good and strong.

"I don't want anyone to read about it and get the wrong idea or think that I'm sick because I'm not. I feel really good and I've never felt better. That's what's so crazy about this thing," she said.

"I went for a regular physical. That's how I discovered this."

The model has been getting a lot of support from fans and her "Dancing With the Stars" family.

"I was scared to get on twitter and hear what people are saying.....now I can breathe easy. Thank you for the support," she tweeted Thursday.

She's also trying to look on the bright side.

"Sharing the news is freeing but scary too. Cancer sounds awful, but I'm doing everything necessary & I feel positive," she tweeted.

"I'm ready to deal with it. I feel really, really strong," she said.

Doctors have told her that this is a "good kind of cancer" to have, though that sounds crazy to her.

"But my doctor did tell me that this is a happily ever after ending kind of thing."
