The critically acclaimed C.S. Lewis biopic Beyond Narnia, which aired on the Hallmark Channel last December to coincide with the theatrical release of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, will be releasing to DVD today through Gaiam, Inc.

The one hour “docudrama,” which The Hollywood Reporter has called “Wonderfully intelligent ... stirring, smart and energetic,” touches on the life, family and friendships of the beloved British author, and gives a particularly candid look at Lewis’ spiritual journey from skepticism to faith, even in the midst of tragedy.

C.S. Lewis: Beyond Narnia brings us ‘further up and further in’ to the life the of the creator of Narnia,” wrote reviewer Jenn Wright, “offering the audience a glimpse into the heart of the man whose wisdom and insight still holds influence in literary, philosophical, and theological discussions forty years after his death.”

“C.S. Lewis has long been considered one of the twentieth century’s most influential figures,” Norman Stone, writer and director of Beyond Narnia told the Agape Press. “Perhaps the time has come to rediscover the man who gave us such an amazing sweep of popular literature and who has contributed so much to so many in terms of thinking and believing in a modern age.”

Filmed on location in England, Beyond Narnia features actor Anton Rodgers (The Merchant of Venice, and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) as C.S. Lewis with Diane Venora (Heat, Romeo and Juliet, and Surviving Picasso) as Joy Gresham.
