'Captain America: Civil War' News, Spoilers: Jeremy Renner Explains Hawkeye Coming out of Retirement; Daniel BrüHl on Playing Baron Zemo
When audiences first saw Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) appear in promotional material for the upcoming superhero ensemble "Captain America: Civil War," many wondered what the Avenger was doing fighting alongside Captain America (Chris Evans) when he was supposed to have already retired.
At the end of 2014's "Avengers: Age of Ultron," Clint Barton/Hawkeye decided that it was time to hang up his bow and arrows and spend more quality time with his family in their picture-perfect rural farm. However, just a couple of years later, Barton is again heading off to battle.
During the recent European premiere of "Captain America: Civil War" in London, Renner explained Hawkeye's change of heart.

"I think it's a good idea but maybe in practicality, not so much," the actor said about the superhero's retirement. "I think golf got a little boring for him."
Renner also gave fans a different perspective on why Hawkeye is facing off against some of his fellow Avengers in "Civil War." "He had to repay a debt to Scarlet Witch and Cap called in need," he said. "So, he had to come out retirement."
Meanwhile, "Inglourious Basterds" actor Daniel Brühl recently opened up to the Independent about playing the "Civil War" villain Baron Zemo. According to Brühl, while he was initially hesitant about joining the film's cast, it was his "Rush" co-star and "Avengers" actor Chris Hemsworth's assurances, as well as the film's central questions, that got him to agree to the Marvel film.
"That's why I was attracted to this story," the actor said. "All these moral questions that these superheroes have… 'Are we really that perfect?' 'What damage are we causing?'"
Brühl also spoke about how the Baron Zemo in "Civil War" departs from the comic book Zemo - a disfigured, world-conquering villain.
While his Zemo is neither hiding behind a mask nor raising armies, the actor said, "It was much more interesting to have this mysterious guy in the background who pulls all these strings."
"Captain America: Civil War" hits theaters May 6.
