Carrie Fisher Drops 35 Pounds for 'Star Wars'

Carrie Fisher debuted her 35-pound weight loss during a night out in Hollywood on Wednesday, May 16.

The actress who famously portrayed Princess Leia in the original "Star Wars" trilogy is reprising her iconic role in the upcoming film "Star Wars: Episode VII." During an event honoring her mother, Debbie Reynolds, Fisher showed off her slimmer figure, explaining the weight loss was for her "Star Wars" role.

"They didn't hire me, they hired me minus 35 pounds," the 57-year-old actress said on the red carpet on Wednesday, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Furthermore, Fisher said that reprising her role as Princess Leia after over two decades is "trippy" before describing the first table read as "great." The starlet also said she has "a wonderful time" meeting the new faces of the epic space opera franchise created by George Lucas. However, the actress remained tight-lipped about other details surrounding the highly-anticipated "Star Wars" since she would "get in trouble" for discussing the film.

Meanwhile, Fisher had previously revealed her plans to lose weight ahead of her "Star Wars" return. Last April, the actress told fans at Canada's Calgary Comic Expo that the studio had hired a trainer for her.

"I'm glad they are doing a new movie because they are sending a trainer to my house so I can get in really good shape," she said, according to the Calgary Sun. "So I'm really eating a lot of sugar in advance, as you can see. By the time I really get down to it I will have eaten everything."

Also during the comic expo, Fisher recalled filming the famous scene between her gold bikini-clad character, Princess Leia, and Jabba the Hut.

"Oh God, I loved doing that," she said. "You know, they ridiculously asked me if I wanted a stunt double to kill Jabba the Hut. Can you imagine? I got to saw that neck off. It was really, really fun and one of the highlights of my career."

"Star Wars: Episode VII" is being directed by J.J. Abrams. The film began production just last week, and it is expected in theaters in Dec. 2015.
