Casey Anthony Living Like a Hermit, May be Ready to Break Silence After 3 Years
It was only three years ago that Casey Anthony was acquitted of murdering her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee, in what was the trial of the summer. Anthony now lives like a hermit, an attorney named Cheney Mason said in a new interview.
Mason said that new lawyer Jose Baez received a lot of attention thanks to his high-profile client. Baez actually began asking Mason, who was more experienced, for help and advice. Mason eventually joined the defense team pro-bono, feeling that Anthony was not receiving a fair trial, in part thanks to the media. Once the trial was over and Anthony acquitted, it was the beginning of a new lifestyle for Anthony, who many believed (still believe) is guilty of the little girl's murder.
"She has to live constantly on guard," Mason told CNN. "She can't go out in public. I think Casey has a lot of world left to deal with. She hasn't been freed from her incarceration yet 'cause she can't go out. She can't go to a beauty parlor, she can't go shopping to a department store, she can't go to a restaurant, she can't even go to McDonald's. She can't do anything,"

Mason and his wife, Shirley, became friends of Anthony's and keep in close contact with the young woman. She needs all the friends she can get, Mason said, as she chooses to remain and work from home. Plus, Anthony does not have any blood relatives left, as he sees it, because her parents have nothing to do with her.
"I'm a cross between a friend, a mother, but not a mother," Shirley Mason said, "only someone who is older who has had experience in the world she has not had. My hope for her is it gets better for her and the world or the people who have been so hateful can let that go and they can move on."
There was also a hint that Anthony might be willing to finally speak out and grant interviews about her life and situation, but it could be a great time away from happening.
"I have never asked her," Shirley said. "But I know she has very strong feelings for what has happened to her. I also know she's very saddened by her loss and she will never forget her daughter Caylee, ever."
