'Castle' Season 8 Rumored as Last Season, Co-Showrunners Address Cancellation Issue
Loyal viewers and fans of American crime drama television series "Castle" will have to prepare themselves for the worse that is to come for the show. According to a report by International Business Times, the series that stars Stana Katic and Nathan Fillon as Kate Beckett and Richard Castle, respectively is hanging by a thread as it is reportedly about to be cancelled.
The show is currently running its eighth season with its ninth episode scheduled to air on February after the month-long midseason break. Apparently, the ratings of the series continues to go down, thus, the possibility of the show no longer getting a renewal for season 9. However, "Castle" co-showrunners Terence Paul Winter and Alex Hawley addressed the rumors through an interview with TV Line.
According to Hawley, it's actually still too early to determine the fate of the show. "The reality is that [the network execs] won't make that decision until very late. So our plan is just to tell a satisfying story and try to wrap up the season in an exciting way," answered Hawley when asked if there is an end game in mind in case ABC will no longer order a season 9 for "Castle."

Winter also revealed that series creator Andrew W. Marlowe and writer Terri Edda Miller wrote the previous season as if it was the last one. He said that they may also be doing the same thing for season 8, although he hopes the show does come back for another season.
As noted in Christian Today, the show will return from the hiatus with Castle and Beckett still in a broken relationship. However, it won't be long and everything will be more of like just for show.
In an interview with Zap2It, Winter said that Castle and Beckett will be pretending that their relationship is still not repaired whenever they are in public. But behind closed doors, the two are very much together.
"Castle" season 8 episode 9 will air on Feb. 1, 2016.
