CBS Releases First 'Supergirl' Trailer (VIDEO)
CBS has just released the first trailer for its television series, "Supergirl" during its CBS Upfront Presentation Tuesday.
CBS' first trailer for its upcoming television series, "Supergirl" opened to rave reviews during the network's CBS Upfront event after it announced the full fall schedule for the show.
The trailer reveals Superman's cousin, Kara Jor-el (Melissa Benoist), who has been living incognito for the last 24 years on earth as a normal human Kara Danvers together with her adoptive sister Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh). She works as an assistant to demanding and egoistic media conglomerate founder, Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart), and remains anonymous until Alex's plane to Geneva loses its engines and is in danger of crashing.

Kara saves the plane, and as a consequence appears on social media as the new phenomenon, Supergirl. She is subsequently recruited by the head of the Department of Extra-Normal Operations, a secret defense agency, Hank Henshaw (David Harewood) to help save her humanity from evil forces.
The trailer also features the series' awareness of the clichés of using the "girl," instead of "woman," with an argument between Kara and her boss, who has coined the term "supergirl."
With the pilot episode introducing the origins of Kara Danvers as the titular superhero, the show will feature Supergirl's day-to-day dealings with the real world, with her finally embracing who she really is.
"Glee" alum Benoist will be joining the ranks of the growing superhero series on television, including "Arrow," "Daredevil," "Gotham," and "The Flash." "Supergirl" will be the second comic book-inspired TV series with a female lead after the recently renewed ABC show, "Agent Carter."
"Supergirl" is scheduled for its first airing November 2015 on a Monday after CBS' NFL "Thursday Night Football" series wraps up that month. It will also star Mehcad Brooks as James "Jimmy" Olsen, and Jeremy Jordan as Kara's co-worker and love interest who helps her invent her Supergirl persona.
