Chelsea Clinton Interviews Mother on Technology and Global Issues

At this week's Clinton Global Initiative meetings, Chelsea Clinton took the center stage to conduct an interview with none other than her mother, Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton.

In the interview, the mother-daughter-duo discussed technological advancements and global issues including global health, and women's economic participation in developing countries.

The young Clinton started off asking her mother, "What in the 21st century is the appropriate role of government and what is the appropriate role of civil society? What can and should government do and what can and should civil society do?"

Mrs. Clinton responded by adding that she was happy to discuss the new trends that have been transpiring in the international order with social media offering people an outlet to participate in global issues and said, "We really are in a new age, we are in the age of participation."

Mrs. Clinton also added that one thing she has specifically focused on during her term as secretary of state has been including more women in economic growth, as she stated, "When you liberate women’s economic potential you elevate the economic growth of nations and indeed regions in the world."

When it came time to discuss technology and the importance of technology in global issues, the secretary of state displayed modesty saying, "Bill and I - I mean, if you don’t tell anybody, I’ll tell you, we are primitive." Chelsea also joked that she sent her mothers first ever text message for her not long ago.

Chelsea interviewed her mom on the last day of the annual Clinton Global Initiative meetings that bring together heads of state, chief executives of companies, directors of major non-profits, and other global leaders to discus global issues, ideas, and ways to make meaningful change. The meetings go on parallel to events at the United Nations General Assembly.

Chelsea Clinton is currently a student at New York University pursuing a doctoral degree at the Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service. She made headlines last year for her wedding to investment banker Marc Mezvinsky.
