The group behind the project, Answers in Genesis, is a prominent Young Earth Creationist group headed by the Australian-born Christian apologist Ken Ham.

According to the Museum, approximately 4,000 people came on opening day, with the facility averaging 300,000 visitors a year by the time it neared its fifth year of operation.

“I think a lot of people will come who don't agree with us,” Ham predicted in an interview with National Public Radio back in 2007. “There are people who won't go to church, but who will go to something like this.”
