Chuck Colson Recovering Well; Did Not Have Stroke, Doctors Say

Prison Fellowship Ministries founder Chuck Colson is recovering well from a surgery that removed a blood clot from his brain Saturday morning.

The prominent evangelical speaker and columnist became ill Friday during the Wilberforce Weekend Conference in Lansdowne, Va. Doctors confirmed that Colson, 80, did not have a stroke and continues to rest comfortably, according to Prison Fellowship.

In a post on the organization's Facebook page, officials thanked everyone for their prayers. The group's administration described the successful surgery as having removed "a pool of clotted blood from the surface of the brain."

His spokesperson, Michelle Farmer, told The Christian Post after the surgery that there is nothing alarming with his health.

"The daily operations of the ministry continue unabated," the ministry states on the Prison Fellowship Facebook page. "Check back for daily updates on Chuck's condition and the activities of the movement he started."

The Wilberforce conference, which opened Friday, was led by The Chuck Colson Center for Christian Worldview and designed to encourage Christians to break the spiral of silence when it comes to the sanctity of human life, traditional marriage, and religious freedom.

Colson has an opinion column that is published regularly on the CP website in which he often writes on the theme reflected in this past weekend's conference.

"A handful of angry voices seemingly control the message on the most fundamental issues of life, liberty, marriage and family. The majority opinion has been silenced, its proponents labeled ignorant, intolerant, out-of-touch bigots … Christians feel threatened, alone, and helpless," the conference website states. "The Spiral of Silence is fragile, and if one by one we stand up and speak out against the Lie, against injustice, against evil, the spiral will begin to unravel, and Truth and justice will prevail."
