Chumbawamba Split: Twitter Reacts (VIDEO)

Chumbawamba has announced their split, causing thousands to take to the internet with their reactions.

The '90s pop music group made the announcement on their website, writing, "That's it then, it's the end. With neither a wimpier, a bang or reunion."

"We do, of course, reserve the right to re-emerge as Chumbawamba doing something else entirely (certainly not touring and putting out albums every 2 or 3 years)," the group added.

"But frankly, that's not very likely. Thirty years of being snotty, eclectic, funny, contrary and just plain weird. What a privilege, and what a good time we've had," concluded Chumbawamba.

The British alternative band formed in the U.K. in 1982 and are best known for their first hit single "Tubthumping," while other hits included "Amnesia," "Enough is Enough," "Timebomb," and "Top of the World," among others.

Their anarchist politics and outspoken beliefs about issues such as animal rights, feminism, and pop culture have landed the group in hot water before.

Since announcing their split, fans expressed a variety of feelings from angst to relief, and many were surprised that the band was even still together.

"Chumbawamba have apparently called it a day (after 30 years!?)," wrote Andrzej. "Did anyone know they were still together???"

Tony joked, "BREAKING: Chumbawamba break up… MORE BREAKING NEWS: Chumbawamba was still together"

"Chumbawamba broke up today," wrote Tyler. "So make sure to pour out a whiskey drink tonight. It a vodka drink. Or a cider drink."

Twitter user Monkeydog was upset over the band's split.

"Can't believe Chumbawamba are calling it a day," she wrote. "They're my musical heroes. I have a gamillion albums and have been privileged to meet them."

Kelly responded to the news with sarcasm, writing, "Such a terrible shame and waste of musical talent *not*."

Similarly, Deep Fried Man posted to Twitter that the news was only sad for members of Chumbawamba.
