Conservative Man Promotes Boycott of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development

A Virginia man is calling for people to boycott the Catholic Campaign for Human Development.

Richard Viguerie is boycotting the campaign; because he claims, donations the CCHD receives are used by organizations that fund activities outside the teachings of the church.

Viguerie is the chairperson of website ConservativeHQ. It serves conservatives and Tea Party members who support “bringing small-government, constitutional conservatives to power.”

A statement on ConservativeHQ explained why Viguerie formed the boycott.

"For the past several years, I have become increasingly outraged, as are many other devout Catholics, by the horrible abuses of our trust and faith by organizations funded by the CCHD. The simple fact of the matter is that significant portions of the grants made by the CCHD have been given to left-wing organizations working in direct contradiction of Church teaching. This must stop, and the only way it will stop is if Catholics across America stop giving to CCHD.”

He also said that CCHD donations, instead of providing food, shoes, and clothing to the disadvantaged, are provided for “power, grassroots organizing, and left-wing political influence.”

According to Viguerie, a report that was conducted by the American Life League in March 2010 showed 21 percent of organizations that received funds from the CCHD promoted abortion, homosexuality, birth control, or Marxism.

Viguerie is calling for the boycott to take place on Nov. 19 and Nov. 20.

After the ALL report findings were discovered, the CCHD partook in an internal reorganization. A subsequent report was produced in January 2011, and it showed a number of questionable grantees increased to 24 percent. The increase outraged Viguerie.

In total, the foundation allegedly gave $1,863,000, out of $7,608,000 received donations, to various coalitions and organizations that support questionable acts.
