Country Star Hillary Scott Says New Christian Album 'Love Remains' Was God's Will (Interview)
After the release of her single "Thy Will," Scott started talking publicly about a miscarriage she had.
She first revealed the meaning behind the song,"Thy Will," during an interview with ABC's "Good Morning America." Her hope, she said, is that women who have been through that would not be ashamed to talk about it and heal from their loss.
"I know every woman is different and connects with her baby at different times — that's a very personal journey. But ultimately, if you've taken that test and you've prayed for a child and you see that positive test, you are immediately picturing that child getting on the school bus to go to kindergarten. You are immediately seeing them, whether you know if its a girl or a boy, you are already just praying and trying to imagine and dream what their life is going to be," the seven-time Grammy Award-winning singer said.

"So it doesn't matter if you're four weeks pregnant or 40 weeks pregnant, you connect on an emotional level and on a physical level. You are physically carrying this child. And to try and suppress that in you heart, in your emotions, I don't think that's healthy."
Scott explained that even men are affected by losing a child through miscarriage, although it's totally different for them.
"They can't do anything about it other than support and be there as best as they can for their spouse," the mother of 2-year-old Eisele Kaye explained. "It's one of those things where it's just a very trying experience. It's trying physically, it's hard emotionally, and I think trying to suppress that in ourselves isn't healthy, it's really important to bravely talk about. Not to the world, you don't have to broadcast it, that's up to the individual."
While many women tend to endure this kind of grief silently Scott admitted that she can't.
"I'm never going to be the same because of what I went through. God has redeemed and healed, not only my body but a lot of my heart through it because I feel like He gave me this gift of this pregnancy even though that baby is now in Heaven, the song came from it," she said.
The singer/songwriter divulged that her openness and song have connected her to many others who are hurting. Scott said these social media connections have been healing for her.
"God has been giving me dozens of daily prayer requests. I've been able to lift them up in that moment and say, 'Lord, meet them wherever they are right now,'" Scott said. "It's scary to be really honest and really transparent and vulnerable. But if you take the risk, I really believe the growth and the connection you are better for it. And I think God blesses your courage and your obedience to share your testimony."
The singer told CP that she has never regretted connecting with people on a deeper level even though at times that does open the door to hurt. But emphasized that sharing with others is so important and creates community.
"We are so connected as human beings and we go through all types of different circumstances. But at the same time, we go through the exact thing as the next person everyday," Scott stressed. "That's one of the greatest parts of living to me, is who you get to live your life with."
The country crooner admitted that it's all still hard for her sometimes but added that it's all part of the grief journey.
"I think that a lot of us, myself included, in order for us to not feel, [we say] 'OK, I'm going to get on Facebook or I'm going to go look and see what this famous person is doing today on their Instagram. There are ways to get totally lost in other people's lives or in your phone. It's like the second you start to feel sad you're like, 'I'm just going to distract myself with something,'" she said, emphasizing that there's a blessing in being honest with one's pain.
"The other part of my story is when we press into the Lord and we really surrender our hearts and grief to Him, He gives us strength beyond what we could have ever imagined. And we've become stronger than we ever really thought we were, and that is what's so powerful," Scott concluded.
