CP World Report: Mitt Romney, DNC, Syria, Brazil Evangelism, Pope Benedict

Mitt Romney officially accepted the Republican nomination last night with a rousing speech that touched on jobs, his Mormon faith and family. A surprise speaker at the Republican National Convention was Hollywood icon Clint Eastwood. But beyond the hoopla and many heartfelt speeches on Romneys behalf, the evening marked one of a very few opportunities any presidential challenger is granted to appeal to millions of voters in a single night. The economy is the issue in the race for the White House, and Romney presented his credentials…… as the man better equipped than President Obama to help create jobs.

The upcoming Democratic national Convention has created a feminist revolt because of a rule that bars children—including nursing infants—from entering without being credentialed. Critics say, the rule makes it difficult for delegate moms who are now at a loss to provide care for their children. Top feminist icon Gloria Steinem says the move alienates female voters from the Democratic party.

More than 650-thousand attended the two-day "Evangelistic Crusade Victorious Life For You" in Brazil. The event is in its 16th year. Well-known televangelist Silas Malafaia led the event. He preached the message: "God is in Control and "How to be a complete person. Close to 11,000 committed their lives to Christ.

Pope Benedict has referred to "falsehood" as the "mark of the devil", of which he said the betrayer Judas was most guilty of. His message was that Judas could have been honest and left, as many of Jesus' disciples did; indeed. But instead he remained with Christ, not because of faith and love but with the secret intention of taking vengeance on the Master. He was teaching that those who do not believe in the message should leave rather than become betrayers like Judas. Lifesite News did a special report about the pope's comments being very much related to the Catholic Church's formal teachings in support of traditional marriage and pro-life views.
