Dakota Fanning Celebrates Birthday Today

Actress Dakota Fanning has turned 18 on Thursday, just days after attending New York's Fashion Week.

The young star had a front row seat at the Marc Jacobs show as well as the Rodarte show, and displayed a quirky yet elegant style at both.

While seemingly shy and sweet in the media's spotlight, Fanning has filled many dark roles such as evil Jane Volturi in the "Twilight Saga" films and a wild lead singer of a rock band in "The Runaways."

Today, the actress is preparing for her most recent project "Now Is Good" to be released to theaters. In the film, Fanning portrays Tessa Scott who is dying of leukemia. With only months to live, Scott creates a to-do list before she dies, starting with losing her virginity.

Jeremy Irvine also stars in "Now Is Good," as well as Kaya Scodelario and Paddy Considine. The film premieres in May.

Fanning has a strong fan following, and fans of the newly 18-year-old actress took to Twitter with their well wishes and comments on Thursday.

"It's Dakota Fanning's 18th birthday! RT to send her some bday love," wrote Teen.

Twitter user Joel joked, "Am I allowed to find Dakota Fanning attractive yet?"

"Happy BDay Hannah Dakota Fanning," wrote Krisbian on the social media site. "I wish you the best you deserve it you are a sweet soul keep moving forward and deeper in our hearts."

Fred wrote, "Dakota Fanning is growing up before our eyes, she turns 18 today! #happybirthday."

On Wednesday, posters for "Now Is Good" were spotted featuring Fanning posed with Irvine donning a short-cropped haircut.

After appearing in a Tide commercial at just 5-years-old, Fanning landed her first significant acting role on "ER." Her career became more prominent in 2003 with "Uptown Girls" and "The Cat in the Hat."

Fanning has a younger sister, Elle Fanning, who is also an actress. She and her family are Southern Baptists and as of last fall, Fanning attends New York University.
