Dallas Cowboys News 2015: Robert Turbin Gets Call-Up
There's something going on with the Dallas Cowboys; like they're looking at the Seattle Seahawks as a homeowner on a garage sale. After signing former Seahawks running back Christine Michael and eventually cutting him, they replaced him with another running back, and yes, you've guessed it — a former Seahawk in Robert Turbin.
The signing of Turbin was announced on Wednesday by the team, hoping to add someone who can provide an immediate contribution to a visibly struggling team. The 25-year-old played for the Seahawks, and then the Browns, before joining the Cowboys.
Upon losing Tony Romo to an injury (broken collarbone), Dallas has been in a gradual mess lately, parting ways with offensive coordinator Bill Callahan. This signing is actually the team's fifth experiment this season alone.
Turbin, though, has a lot of potential, only if given the playing time. Drafted by the Seahawks in 2012, he played just three games this season for Cleveland, eventually released just last week. He currently averages 3.3 yards per carry based on 18 attempts, while his average in a young career is 4.0.
The Cowboys haven't been that lucky this season in terms of player contributions and Romo's injury does not help either. It all started when DeMarco Murray left and signed with the Eagles, followed by the disappointment of the Joseph Randle experiment. Randle's replacement, Darren McFadden, is doing well so far, but other than him, the rest of Dallas' depth chart is made up of rookies Trey Williams and Rod Smith. Hence, Turbin's addition is definitely a positive one.
Romo is expected to return to action soon, and if all goes well, Turbin can have his chance to prove he's worth the gamble. The Cowboys are coming off a loss to the Bucs last Sunday, and with a record of 2-7, it's unclear how the team is looking at the season right now. But as anyone can tell, they're certainly out of contention as of the moment.
