Arquette, 41, made the truthful admission on Monday after noting that his honesty would be met with cruelty.

A self-proclaimed "drinker," the actor said he has been known to consume an entire bottle of liquor before.

"I drink a lot," he said, according to MSN. "Yeah, I'll smoke a little weed. I don't realty want to be into all that, because the problem is people are going to take this and start talking about it."

Arquette spent 28 days in rehab in 2011 "for drinking and depression."

Today, the actor owns Los Angeles' night club Bootsy Bellows and explained his new attitude on alcohol.

"I'd been sober for two years and four months and feeling that I wasn't being true to myself, like what I enjoy and this and that," Arquette told Howard Stern.

"My problem with being honest with you and talking to you is that people are going to take all this and just be cruel with it," added the star, who recently deleted his Twitter account because "people were so mean."

"I'm afraid to be honest, I've got my own problems," Arquette continued. "The whole game of life, I got it. It's called the game of kindness and kindness is the new currency."

Meanwhile, Arquette recently finalized his divorce from actress Courtney Cox. The pair shares one daughter, nine-year-old Coco.

The pair filed for a divorce 13 years to the date after their wedding and citied "irreconcilable differences," according to TMZ.

Nevertheless, Arquetter and Cox remain amicable.

"I appreciate David more now than I ever did," Cox told Ellen DeGeneres last year. "I mean… it's hard. I don't recommend divorce in general, but, you know, he is my best friend and we've both grown and changed."

"I think we both appreciate each other more," the "Friends" star added. "I hope he does. I do."
