'Deadpool 2' Cast News: T.J. Miller Excited About Weasel Spinoff, Wants to do More 'X-Men' Films
"Deadpool" actor T.J. Miller, who played the titular superhero's foulmouthed friend Weasel, says that he is looking forward to reprising his role in a potential Weasel spin-off and in future 'X-Men' films.
In a recent phone interview with Cinema Blend, Miller said that he's eager to return to the big screen as Weasel in the upcoming "Deadpool" sequel and in future installments of the blockbuster hit. While it was unclear if Miller was speaking the truth or merely teasing, what he said about a possible spinoff starring his "Deadpool" character is something fans can get excited about.
"I'm excited about the prospect of a Weasel spin-off," the actor said, "because he makes this super suit, that's not great and it's a superhero in Las Vegas protects casinos."
Miller also spoke about Deadpool's best pal possibly donning a suit a la Iron Man in a future film. According to the actor, this suit, having been made on a budget, will not enable the wearer to fly. Instead, it will merely hover three or four feet above the ground.
As both Miller and CinemaBlend noted, there is precedence for this scene in the Marvel Comics. In the comic books, Weasel does put on an iron suit called The House.
Miller also spoke about wanting Weasel to get in more action sequences. As the actor told the website, he had been asking the "Deadpool" filmmakers to give Weasel some guns. However, he said, if the filmmakers don't want him to get into the action scenes, he's fine with that too.
With "Deadpool" poised to have a good long future in the movies, Weasel will have a lot to do whether or not he gets some firepower of his own.
"I think there's probably going to be three more installments, a Weasel spin-off," Miller teased. "I'm contractually obliged to do the cameos in other 'X-Men' universe stuff, so there's plenty more 'Deadpool' to come."
Meanwhile, Simon Kinberg, who produces and oversees 20th Century Fox's "X-Men" films, says that the success of the first "Deadpool" means that there will be perks for the sequel.
"[T]he success of it, I think the result is, we'll have even more freedom," he told Den of Geek. "[A]nd maybe a little more money for the next 'Deadpool' movie."
The official release date for "Deadpool 2" has not been announced.
