Denver Broncos Roster News: Peyton Manning Begins Throwing, Performing Drills
Good news for Broncos fans, all-time favorite quarterback Peyton Manning is showing progress in the hope of recovering from a torn plantar fascia. It was revealed on Thursday that the 39-year-old quarterback has resumed drill work and was even shown throwing for the first time since Nov.15.
Although what he showed is still considered light activity, it definitely is welcoming news for the team, although they haven't really missed him in three games, all victories, to which he didn't play. Denver seems comfortable enough and clicking with Brock Osweiler taking over in the meantime.
The Broncos' string of strong performances resulting to victories only means one thing — they really don't have to force Manning to return, unless of course doctors say that he's fully recovered from the injury. The big question waiting for the team is what happens when Manning eventually returns? Will he be resuming starting duties once again or will the coaching staff opt to start Osweiler, so long as they're winning? It makes perfect sense to give the starting job to Manning once he's back, but inserting him, probably after Week 14, may break the team's momentum.
According to head coach Gary Kubiak, Manning threw for about 30 minutes during the team's practice on Wednesday, which he continued to do the next day. The key to a faster recovery is to let him get exposed to physical activity, but it has to be in moderation.
For Osweiler, it has been an awesome ride so far. His strong performance even took Denver to an undefeated set of games. Also, an offense that has been quite slowed down has been revived, in the process giving the defensive lineup some breathing room and relief. The fact is Manning, no matter how great he is in his career, has been struggling before getting the injury.
