'Destiny' PlayStation News: April Update Includes PlayStation-Exclusive Gear

Gamers playing the first-person shooter video game "Destiny" on PlayStation consoles are in for a treat yet again, as PlayStation and Bungie, the game's developer, have announced that there will be PlayStation-exclusive content included in the game's upcoming update.

"We're really excited to provide you with new things to do and new things to earn in the April Update," Bungie Community Manager David Dague said in an announcement on the PlayStation blog. "The Reef is about to become the center of action in the game again, and the party wouldn't be the same without you," he added.

The much-anticipated "Destiny" update, which is scheduled to go live on April 12, will offer a variety of new content for all players of the game at no additional charge. However, those playing "Destiny" on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 will get some new exclusive story content and gear, including a sniper rifle called Zen Meteor, a new Sparrow known as Velumbra, and a new quest called Essence of Darkness.

Zen Meteor, which sports some ornate filigree work on its stock and scope, can fire explosive rounds thanks to its Dynamite and With a Laser Beam features. A short clip featuring the Zen Meteor shows that the rifle can also somehow catch fire.

The new Sparrow, which is akin to the speeder bikes in "Star Wars," can be obtained by completing the Fight Fire with Fire mission or the Essence of Darkness quest.

Three new armors, one for each class, will also be available for PlayStation platforms. Barkhan Dune I is the new Warlock armor, Long Tomorrow 9G is the new Hunter armor, and Jovian Guard is the new Titan armor.

Previous PlayStation-exclusive content released for "Destiny" have had a one-year exclusivity window.

Also included in the April update are a new max Light level, a new story arc, new Strikes, new gear, new the Prison of Elders challenges, and some tweaks to the game system.

The new major update for "Destiny" drops April 12 for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
